The WFRFD serves fire and emergency services in the lower West Fork Valley. We are a fully volunteer operated rural fire department. We are always looking for new members and financial support. If you would like to contribute your time, knowledge or financial support, we would appreciate hearing from you.
About Us
The West Fork Rural Fire District was founded in 1985 in response to a growing population in Ravalli County. In 1995, we added a Quick Response Medical Team, and in 2008 our substation on the Nez Perce road was completed. This addition to the already in place Darby and Painted Rocks fire stations made it possible for all West Fork residences to be with in five miles of a fire station.
Our current fire district is 8402 acres or 13 square miles of unincorporated Ravalli County along the West Fork of the Bitterroot and the Nez Perce rivers. One hundred percent of our district is classified as 'wildland-urban interface.' What this means is, all private property in our district is either adjacent to or very near National Forest land. When a wildland fire starts, we need to be ready to protect you, the private property owner.
The West Fork Rural Fire District is an all volunteer department. Our members represent a wide age range and skill level. We respond to structure fires, chimney fires, wildland fires- which threaten or are on private property, residential gas leaks, downed powerlines, traffic accidents and medical emergencies. In time of need, we also provide and receive mutual aid for our neighboring fire districts.
